Personality:
Belle is a noble and passionate young woman. She cared deeply about her people and those she later comes to befriend. She yearns to be out on her own and have her own adventure without others having control of her life and what she can do or say. She often has a book with her and most of her knowledge comes from the books. People tend to find her strange and make fun of her for it. Most of the time she ignores this.
However, her passion for her people's safety and well being caused her to sacrifice her own life as she agreed to be Rumplestilskin's servant in payment for his ability to save her people. She is quite proud of the fact that she had made the decision and that her father and soon to be husband had no say in the matter. Only others may view this as an act of foolishness for not requesting a contract, something that people tend to do when they deal with Rumplestilskin.
Her kindness and determination also began to affect Rumplestilskin. Through her time with him she began to realize there was more to him then he tried to show. Her feelings toward him also began to grow. It becomes a rocky relationship as both tend to know what to say and do to hurt each other, but her insistence in the relationship seems to hold them together.
Often she spent a lot of time trying to persuade Rumplestilksin to do the right thing and to not hurt someone who's not held their end of the deal or who had gotten in the way of his plans. Most of the time he will listen to her, but there are cases where he's too far gone to listen and that causes a strain in their relationship.
The fact that Belle is naive and her impulsiveness and determination often cause her to not to think things through all the way and cause her to get into trouble. She also has a tendency to try and see the Good in what people could be. In few cases that does work, but in most cases she tries to believe in those who are too far gone to see in reason. When she does realize that it doesn't work she ends up being confused.
Often when things don't go her way her first instinct is to run out of the door. Usually it's always alone and never with a means to fight and always in the wrong direction. Despite all her good intentions, she often needs to be rescued or spends a lot of her time locked up. She also ends up being a pawn used against Rumplestilskin when people began to realize his attachment toward her.
Despite these traits, she just wants to do the right thing and be of use. She does not like having to sit by and watch things unfold or be someone that has to be protected. Yet, she really doesn't have a lot of skills or the ability to use magic. A lot of times she ends up resorting to help run Rumplestilskin's pawn shop, looking up information, and getting a library started.
Like most of the members of Storybroke, Belle has another identity known as Lacey. Lacey tends to be a darker side of Belle. She doesn't come off as naive and innocent or caring about another's well being. Instead she likes to try and instigate things and seems to enjoy seeing another person in pain. Where Belle tended to try to persuade Rumplestilskin to be good, Lacey provokes his darker side.
She is also not one to be pushed around and tends to gain a crowd of onlookers. Where the people who knew who she really was frowned down upon her. Lacy merely took this by stride and used what she could.

Abilities:
Most of Belle's knowledge comes from books. She's not much of a fighter and spends most of her time running Rumplestilkin's pawn shop or preparing to open Storybroke's library. This however doesn't stop her from trying to be of use. If Rumplestilksin is absent she is often left in charge of his shop and is capable of providing the information that someone may request. Her knowledge from books makes her great from researching hard to find or forgotten information and she has the ability to read various languages. She is also one of the few people who can persuade Rumplestilskin from harming someone.
